 REPORTING SPEECH

There are two kind of report,direct and indirect

We use the direct speech to report something that another person has said.

DIRECT: subject/ who produces the speech

Example:

-Carlos said “I am tired”

-Alice said, "I love to dance."

-"I was working late last night," Vicki said.

Exercises

Organize and complete the sentences in direct speech

“David was ill”

Turn into direct speech

Mary said she was very tired.   Mary said:""

2 The teacher told the boys to open their books.    The teacher said to the boys: "  "

3 Tom's mother told him not to eat any icecream.   Tom's mother said to Tom: ""

In the indirect speech you do not use the marks and the verbal time changes.

Sometimes we use that in the affirmative

EXAMPLES 

Andres said “I am hungry”

Andres said that he was hungry

-He told me they had gone to the movies the night before.

-John said he would go to the moviesthe next day.
